Honda is a major sponsor of the Toronto Honda Indy as well as being one of the engine suppliers, the other being Chevrolet. Honda had a large presence in the infield stable of attractions including teaching these youngsters how to operate Honda motorcycles for an experience even the most jaded smart phone internet surfing millenial would enjoy. The veteran New Zealand driver has made 251 consecutive starts which is the second longest streak in Indy car racing. He has won 45 Indy Car races including three podium finishes here in Toronto and the win last year. He is driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. Photo by Jim Chung/PRN

Pole position by Frenchman Simon Pagenaud.

Yellow flagged in the first lap!

Even before the first lap was completed, there were multiple collisions with the tire wall in Turn 8 and many cars had to dive into the runoff area to avoid further carnage. The cars are following the safety car down Princes Blvd. The start/finish line is close to the deactivated traffic lights where the red Honda start/finish tower is located. The iconic Princes' Gate arch is visible in the background and was built in 1927 to commemorate 60 years of Canada as a nation. The gate was dedicated by Prince Edward VIII and Prince George VI atop which is the Winged Goddess of Victory clutching a maple leaf. Photo by Jim Chung/PRN
